There is a town in northern Alabama named Scottsboro. Scottsboro is the home of an unusual business named Unclaimed Baggage Center. This business is the final resting place for airline baggage that remains with an airline unclaimed for more than 90 days. Airline companies are required to make every possible attempt to locate the rightful baggage owner, and 99% of the time the airline’s attempts are successful. However, the small percentage of baggage which cannot be returned to its owner is sold en masse to the Unclaimed Baggage Center in Scottsboro. Every conceivable item which fits in airline luggage is delivered to the center and sold at deeply discounted prices–diamonds, mobile phones, cameras, dresses, suits, and much more.
Upon reading the story of this business, I immediately began thinking about the many unclaimed goods, promises, and blessings God intended us to have. Acts 20:32 and other verses tell us that God has given us an inheritance. Romans 8:32 says, He [God] that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? And 2 Peter 1:3a says, his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness.
Since God has given us an inheritance isn’t it time to find out the details in the Word and then claim them? The bible in Deuteronomy 1:38b The Message says of Joshua that He’s the one who will claim the inheritance for Israel. When it comes to things that God has promised in His Word, we need to act as Joshua and lay claim to our inheritance. Let’s not let any of God’s promises go unclaimed!
