After paying for a recent lunch, I pulled a folded wad of money from my pocket. Showing the server the money I said, “If you can guess how much money I have in my hand I will give it to you.” Sometimes we say things before we think! Such was the case this day. The server looked at the money and asked, “Is that from your pocket or your wallet?” It was from my pocket, so she guessed $20. Well, I breathed a sigh of relief, because I knew I had more money than that. I unfolded and showed her the money. She said, “You wouldn’t have given me the money anyway.” I protested, “I keep my word, and I would have given it to you!”
Thinking about this event I remembered that Numbers 23:19 says God is not a man that he should lie, nor the Son of man that he should repent… If we as humans keep our word, we should have no trouble believing that God will keep His Word.
When God’s Word declares in Philippians 4:19 that my God shall supply all your needs we should believe that God is not a man that he should lie. Or, when His Word says in 3 John 2 that His wish, above all things, is that we prosper and be in health, we should believe that God is not a man that he should lie. And, when God says in Romans 6:14 that sin shall not have dominion over you, we should believe that God is not a man that he should lie.
