My older brother graduated from high school in 1970. Like most seniors, he bought a senior class ring. Shortly after he got it, our family went water skiing at a nearby lake.
Following an afternoon of skiing we were transferring our clothes from the boat onto the dock while daddy retrieved the car to land the boat. My brother picked up his clothes. While walking toward the car he heard something hit the dock and heard a “plunk” in the water. He didn’t think much of it until we got in the car and were headed home. He began looking for his senior class ring, but couldn’t find it. He soon realized his ring made the fateful sound on the dock and “plunk” in the water.
As it was late that afternoon, my mother and brother went to the river two days later to search for the ring. My brother began diving into the cloudy water. On one dive he reached his hand down to the bottom and the ring slipped onto his finger. Wow!
This searching indicates a determined seeking and searching that should be a lesson to us in our Christian lives. We should seek after God in a similar manner: consistent and without quitting. In our seeking we will find success. As young king Uzziah in 2 Chronicles 26:5 NIV discovered, He [Uzziah] sought God during the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God. As long as he sought the Lord, God gave him success. God will do the same for us.
